Abstract

What are benefits and values created by recycling bottle caps to give thema second life through art jewellery?

Abstract:

I am Siphamandla Mbobosi an advanced diploma student at the University of Johannesburg, I am currently conducting research on recycling and using bottle caps to create jewelry. This abstract provides a summary of their my research and the importance of  the work.

My research focuses on exploring the potential of bottle caps as a sustainable material for jewelry making. I chose to use bottle caps because I often see that people who do recycling tend not to care about bottle caps which I see as a problem. I thought if I give them value through a second life people will start taking them seriously and start recycling them.

The research focuses more on my personal experience through creative exploration of bottle caps using a practice led research method to finally come up with a finished product. Bottle caps are really interesting to work with, so one needs to explore first to see what works and what does not.

The significance of this research lies in its potential to promote sustainable practices in the jewelry industry. By repurposing bottle caps, I aim to reduce waste and contribute to the circular economy. Furthermore, the research will shed light on how I will make my jewellery and give second life to these bottle caps using  jewelry design and making.

In conclusion, my advanced diploma research project centers on the exploration of recycling bottle caps to create unique and environmentally friendly jewelry. The findings of this study will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable practices in the jewelry industry, providing insights into the potential of repurposing materials to create value and contribute to a more sustainable future.
